Some of the most anticipated movies of 2009 will be released this winter, as studios aim to take advantage of the holiday crowds and slip in Oscar hopefuls ahead of awards season.
Recent releases like Disney's modern interpretation of the traditional Charles Dickens tale A Christmas Carol have already started to build up the holiday
mood.
Other upcoming highlights include big-budget 3D epic Avatar, which is due to be released December 18th worldwide, and Peter Jackson's film adaptation of Alice Sebold's heart-wrenching novel The Lovely Bones.
Christmas falls on a Friday this year, and will usher in Rob Marshall's musical Nine with an all-star cast including Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, and Sophia Loren.
Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, will be in theatres Christmas Day.
Just to name of a few!

I read good things about Nine! K.
Nine is going to have quite a line-up, K! Am definitely seeing it!
Am also looking forward to The Lovely Bones, and as many Sherlock Holmes as I've seen, I'll probably see this one too! ;)
I love the Christmas story one and hope that I can find a victim to drag to the movies to. Do you have any favorites?

I have seen every Christmas movie ever !!seriously - My favorites still every version of Christmas Carol,Cicely Tyson, Vanessa Williams, Henry Winkler , Susan Lucci- I told you I've seen them all and they still gratify me always sandy
When the boys were young, OH used to take them to the cinema every Christmas Eve to give me a chance to get on with some baking and food prep, and when I was young, my Dad used to take us all on Boxing Day, usually to one of the premieres in London. But it's been years now since I've been to the cinema at Christmas!
Maybe we should think about it!
Wholeheartedly agree, Sandy! I can watch It's a Wonderful Life, Meet John Doe, The Holiday, The Family Stone, over and over! Never tire of them! :))
What a wonderful tradition, Jay! It would be nice to pick it up again! :))

I think I've seen every Sherlock Holmes movie, Janeen! Can never get enough!
I didn't know anything about Skype until the day of the interview! I barely got by! It's really not that hard, and you can communicate via skype all over the world! So it's definitely worth it!
A wonderful weekend right back at you! :))
