Photos from Around the World during Earth Hour 2009

Started in Sydney, Australia in 2007, Earth Hour quickly grew into a global observance. More than 1,000 cities in over 80 countries observed Earth Hour 2009 on Saturday March 28th, as homes, office towers and landmarks turned off their lights for an hour starting at 8.30 pm local time to raise awareness about climate change and the threat from rising greenhouse gas emissions. Collected here are a series of before-and-after photographs from around the world.

The shot of the Acropolis is amazing!

I did manage to participate, by the way. I forgot about the time difference between your place and mine!

Enzie: In two years, the momentum has grown exponentially! This global awareness and participation is truly inspiring! :))

Tammy: It surely is! Let's hope for more next year!

MZ: Isn't it? There were so many more photos, but the post would have gone on forever! ;)

Neat comparisons. Vegas and the Bund really made a difference to their skylines. I'm not thinking we made as much of a difference here in Toronto. A little though. Guess we need more awareness!

I've been on blog hiatus this week and visiting my friends today! Very cool pics, you did a great job on this post. Amazing isn't it how we can all communicate around the world in an instant now?

Muse: There were so many more. I wish I could have shared them all!

PV: You think so? There's a big difference in the before and during. But then again, you would know better! :))

Tipper: Thank you, sweet lady! :))

Janeen: Nice to see you, gorgeous! ;) It is amazing; and for the good, even better! :))
